The first term of the year is almost over and it has been a terrific term at Eumundi State School.
Next week has a lot to offer with the school cross country and the Crazy Colour Day P&C fundraiser. Please ensure you check the schedule in this newsletter for both events. It would be great to see as many parents as possible here to support the children. At Eumundi, we love to have all parents attend as many events as possible. Students will need to have a signed parental permission to be allowed to participate in the Crazy Colour Day event. Please refer to the email sent earlier this week as a reminder for parental permission.
For the Crazy Colour Day, it will be a free dress day for all children in Years Prep to Year 2. We would like all children in these year levels to come in the clothing that they will run in and be coloured. At the conclusion of the event, students will be washed down and will then get changed into free dress for the remainder of the day. Please ensure your child brings a change of clothes and a towel.
For students in Years 3 to 6, they will need to wear their sports colours to school so that they can compete in the school cross country. During first break, at the end of the cross country event, they will be asked to change into their Crazy Colour Day clothes so that they can participate in the run. At the end of the event, they will be washed down and will get changed back into their cross country clothes. Please ensure they pack what they need for the day and bring a towel.
Our P&C needs your support
On Tuesday 26th March, 9am the P&C AGM will be held. We strongly encourage parents to consider nominating for the executive roles. If you are interested but have some questions, please feel free to give me a call at school or arrange a meeting time to discuss what is involved. It is vital that the school and the P&C executive have a strong and trusting working relationship to always strive for the best outcomes and experiences for our students. Should there be no executive, then the P&C will cease for a period of time whilst the school assumes responsibility in caretaker mode to look after the essential operations of the P&C. The ultimate goal is to have an executive to support the fantastic parental volunteers that help facilitate the opportunities for our students. Please do not hesitate to give me a call if you have any questions.
The amazing Linda Bogle
Our amazing HOSES, Linda Bogle, who we all love and appreciate, has been seconded to Regional Office to assist with supporting all schools in our region. Linda has amazing knowledge in her role and as such will be with Regional Office for the remainder of this semester. Linda will be missed at our school on a day to day basis but will still be supporting Eumundi as well as all schools in this time. I congratulate Linda for being given this deserved opportunity. For the remainder of this term, Mrs Goodall will be acting HOSES at our school.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Close communication between the classroom teacher and parents always leads to better student outcomes. Please make the time to book a parent teacher interview with your child’s teacher . Details of how to do this have been emailed home to all families.
Parking
I acknowledge how difficult it is to get a park close to school especially on a Wednesday. However, I respectfully ask that everyone parks safely as per the signed area and do not encroach on the crossing area or double park. This is in the interest of all students safety.
Over the mid semester Easter holiday, I wish everyone a safe and relaxing time. We look forward to seeing all families back at school at the start of Term 2 on April 15.
As always, please do not hesitate to make contact with your child’s teacher or the school office should you have any questions or concerns.
Kind Regards
Anthony
From the Student Support Team
Please see the following resources for parents with regard to emotional regulation and parent support services available on the Sunshine Coast.
Our team meets once per week to discuss supports in place for students across the school and new referrals to the team from teachers and parents. We are a broad multi-disciplinary team with extensive knowledge and experience. We work with teachers to provide advice on supporting students with a diverse range of needs, advice for parents and, with permission, share information with external agencies and support services such as private therapists.
Our school's Student Support Team includes -
- Support Teachers (P-2) and (Years 3 - 6), Mrs Louise Hobson and Mrs Kaitlyn Goodall
- Head of Special Education - Mrs Linda Bogle/Mrs Kaitlyn Goodall
- SWD Teachers - Mrs Lynne Weston
- Deputy Principals and Principal
- Guidance Officer - Mrs Toni McMackin
- Guidance Officer Wellbeing - Mrs Shelley Miller
- Student Support Officer - Mr Oliver Wardle
- School Chaplain - Chappy Sam
What can we do to support emotional regulation?
Because emotional regulation follows a developmental hierarchy from external regulation (someone else regulating their body to help the child) to self-regulation, it is often helpful to consider where on this journey a child’s skills fall. Yes, these skills have developmental milestones, however, that doesn’t mean that everyone meets those milestones at the same time. We don’t expect a child to run before they walk so we can’t expect a child to self-regulate if they can’t regulate with assistance.
EXTRINSIC REGULATION
During extrinsic regulation, a child relies on an adult to regulate for them. This is done by the adult regulating their own body. The child doesn’t do anything else and isn’t expected to do anything else. Extrinsic regulation is so often overlooked.
What this looks like for calming: The adult engages in regulating strategies without *any* demands on the child. This means that the adult is taking nice, deep, breaths. The adult is modelling slow movement, talking in a calm tone, and using a slower rate of speech. Extrinsic regulation can be incredibly powerful and oh so helpful for when a child just isn’t able to actively *do* anything in the moment.
MUTUAL ENGAGEMENT
Mutual regulation occurs when an adult and child engage in regulation strategies together. The strategies being used have already been discussed, practiced, and mutually decided upon and are familiar to the child.
What this looks like for calm: taking five deep belly breaths together, visiting the cozy corner together, exploring sensory bottles etc. The key is that the adult is doing the activities with the child – serving as a model for how to do the exercises and also adding in some extrinsic support for regulation. It’s not uncommon for adults to start at the extrinsic regulation level and as the child begins to regulate (from the regulation being provided by the adult), the child then joins the adult in using the strategies.

Prep 2025
Enrolment applications are being accepted now for 2025. Parents are encouraged to submit applications as soon as possible in 2024 in order to begin our enrolment and transition process.
- Once applications have been received, parents will be invited to attend a group enrolment meeting, after which enrolment can be formalised.
- During the enrolment meeting, we discuss important reminders about preparing children and families for their first year of school, address important aspects of our school policies to be aware of, and provide time for parents for any questions or concerns that might need to be discussed. We also discuss our school process for accepting 'out of catchment' enrolments. For families who are engaged with, or seeking engagement with NDIS support, we schedule individual enrolment meetings with our Support Team.
- Families are then invited to join our Orientation Sessions, usually held throughout November and October, with our Prep teachers in the Prep classrooms. This is an excellent opportunity for all new students to familiarise themselves more with their new school, and start meeting new friends.
Enrolment packs are available on our school website, or drop in to our office to collect a pack.
Parents together with Kindy children are invited to come and observe our Prep classes in action. This session provides opportunities for parents to talk with School Leaders and our Prep teachers about our school and Prep expectations, and to walk through and see our various classrooms.
2024 Prep 'Open Classrooms'
Thursday 16th May (9 - 10:30am)
Tuesday 6th August (9 - 10:30am)
Throughout the year, our Prep Team (including our P-2 Support Teacher, our Special Education Team, and myself), maintain communication with many of our local Kindies - from Eumundi, Cooroy, Pomona, Yandina, Tewantin, Noosaville and Peregian. This will help engage local families in the enrolment process as soon as possible and help keep families informed of key activities they are welcome to join us for.
Families are also warmly invited every Thursday morning (9:00 - 10:30am) to our Seedlings Playgroup for children 0-5 years. A great opportunity again for families to familiarise with our school and meet new and future friends. We have a wide variety of activities, games and toys for families to stay and play with. This year, Playgroup is being held in Prep (classroom closest to the hall).
Toys at school
Staff have noticed an increasing number of toys being brought to school by children (particularly at the moment the popular and colourful plastic 'dragons'). We do have a little flexibility with the 'rule' about bringing toys, but it is important that children have negotiated with their class teachers, who are best placed to help determine whether bringing the toy has a positive impact or not. As a general guide, we would encourage parents to reinforce that toys are not brought to school. Children were reminded on Parade this week, and we ask parents to note the following guide from our Parent Handbook -
BRINGING OF TOYS & OTHER PERSONAL BELONGINGS TO SCHOOL
Toys may be brought to school by negotiation with the Class Teacher only (toys should be given to the teacher or be returned to the child’s bag immediately and remain the responsibility of the child). The school does not take any responsibility for the loss or damage of toys brought to school.
Skateboards and scooters, are permitted to be brought to school by students, but must be brought to the office on arrival for storage until home time. They should not be ridden in the school grounds.
From time to time we also find it necessary to place a temporary ban on items of lesser value which have become ‘trendy’ for children to collect (such as trading cards). This is done when these items cause problems among children.
Kind Regards
Sarah

2024 Sunshine Coast Regional 10-12 Years Golf Trials
Another achievement to be recognised is that of Anthony R. Anthony recently attended the Sunshine Coast Regional 10-12 Years Golf Trials. He played quite skilfully and for the second year in a row gained selection in the Sunshine Coast Golf team to compete at the State Championships in May. Well done and best of luck!
2024 Sunshine Coast Regional Swimming Trials
As previously mentioned, congratulations to Laurel M and Henry F who participated at the regional swimming trials on 6 March. Both swimmers competed strongly in the pool with Laurel going on to qualify for the Sunshine Coast swimming team with Henry only missing out on qualifying by the closest of margins. Good luck to Laurel when she competes at the State Championships on 26-28 March.
10-12 Years Noosa District Sport Trials 2024
Congratulations to all of the Eumundi students who have been selected to represent the Noosa District in their respective sports so far this year. I am still waiting for a full list of these students so that when we recognise this achievement no one is overlooked. Watch this space!

Recently 6P had an awesome Term 1 Enviro Day with Mr Gemmell & Miss Nat.
They had a wonderful day and positively engaged in all activities. Some of those tasks included cooking with Miss Nat, whipping up banana scones and pigeon pea curry. They also spent time collecting, classifying leaves and exploring the cell structure of them. Thanks Mr Gemmell & Miss Nat for a great day!

This term, all 6P students are reading 'Boy Overboard' by author Morris Gleitzman. Each week a different group of students take on a role and work together to facilitate the BookClub. At the end of the week they present their findings to classmates. The BookClub consists of a discussion director, summariser, connector, passage picker, word master and illustrator. All students are interested in the story of Jamal and his family, set in a dangerous place. Pictured here are those students who have taken on a role and presented to the class over the past couple of weeks. We look forward to continuing this routine within the classroom and finding out what happens next in the book.
QPARENTS
The office has sent out emails inviting parents or guardians to become a QParents Account Owner (QPAO) for their student. QPAOs will be able to register for QParents to access and manage the student’s information online, view the student’s information, and submit requests to update some of the student’s details.
Student information includes:
- Attendance and absence details, as well as the ability to notify the school of an absence
- Positive behaviour information
- Academic report cards
- Viewing unpaid invoice details, payment history, and making payments online
- Viewing and updating personal student details, including medical conditions and address
- Enrolment details
- Upcoming events list showing school events and excursions.
- Consent Management including Online Services and Excursion permission.
When you receive your invitation email or letter, simply follow the instructions to register your QParents account. The process should take less than 10 minutes to complete. Initial registration and addition of students to your account must be done on a desktop or laptop computer. Once registered, you will then be able to access QParents using your mobile device (via web browser or by downloading the iPhone or Android App). Invitations sent by email will only ever come from no.reply@qparents.qld.edu.au. You will not be invited to register from any other email address or organisation.
If you do no not want to register you can just ignore the invitation and your child’s student information will not be available to anyone through Qparents.
You will also need to have your child’s EQ ID (their Education Queensland identification number) in order to complete your QParents registration. You will find your child’s EQ ID on the most recent invoice sent from the school last week.

Urgent attention to all Parents/Caregivers
The Staff Carpark on Caplick Way is NOT TO BE USED AS A DROP OFF/PICK AREA OR PARKING AREA FOR PARENTS WAITING TO COLLECT THEIR CHILD. This action creates issues with on site contractors, deliveries and staff having access to the carparks and is potentially dangerous for students.
The parallel car parks at the front of the school (near the Wellbeing Hub) are now 10 minute between 7.00am – 9.00am & 2.00pm – 4.00pm so they can be utilised as a Drop Off/Pick Up Area.
Students should not be advised by parents to meet them in the Carpark area. The exit route for the students should be through the middle area of the school and then through the single gates.
LATE ARRIVAL
Students ARRIVING LATE need to sign in at the office and obtain a late slip. All students should be in class by 8:40am for roll marking. Students who arrive after this time are considered late. This is prime learning time for all the children so please try and give your child/ren every opportunity to maximise their learning by arriving to school on time.
EARLY DEPARTURES and/or CHANGES TO TRAVEL/COLLECTION ARRANGEMENTS.
Parents are requested to make appropriate arrangements with their children relating to getting home from school in the morning before they leave home. Please feel free to send a note to school for the teacher if arrangements differ to other days. Telephone messages received during the day are difficult to pass on without distrupting not only your child's learning, but the learning of others too. Messages received after 12:00pm can not be guaranteed to be able to be passed onto the student.
Hello Amazing Eumundi SS Community.
As most of you would have seen, the Eumundi SS Crazy Colour Day/Fun Run is fast approaching & we couldn't be more excited. So far our fundraising is off to an amazing start & there is so much excitement amongst the students.
To date the Eumundi State School community has raised $20,609.32, we have 346 children who have created a profile & 187 children raising money online. This is a fantastic start & these funds will be a huge help in funding the Wellbeing program, the Enviro Centre & we will be able to put a healthy sum away into a playground improvement fund. BUT we are sure we can do more, based on our current average if ALL children were fundraising online we could raise $68,991.62, imagine that!!!!!!!!!
We would like to thank all of those families who have jumped on board & supported us for this event. You would have also seen a number of teachers getting slimed, which the children are loving. We would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to each & every teacher for putting your hands up for this, without you all this event would not be possible.
Don’t forget to BYO white shirt, so start to look around for one & we invite all parents to come along to the event on Thursday 21st March. An event like this would not be possible without many hands-on deck. The Eumundi SS P&C would like to thank Kirsty, Robyn & Tess for all of their hard work getting this event off the ground, BUT we still need your help on the day, if you can spare any time on the 21st March to help us out please scan the QR code below or click here Colour Run Volunteers: 2024 ESS Fun Run Volunteer Roster (signupgenius.com) to sign up. It’s such a fun day for both parents, helpers & students, don't miss out!!!!
Your P&C NEEDS YOU!!!!!!
The P&C is at a very real risk of folding due to a lack of people to fill executive positions. This would have a massive impact on our school community, and we don’t want to see that happen.
What would our school look like without a P&C?
- No Mothers/Father’s Day stalls
- No sports day sausage sizzles or bake sales
- No disco or fun days
- No colour runs
- No additional funding for Chappy Sam or the Enviro Centre so both of these scaled right back
- Uniform shop could be outsourced
- No $$$$ going back to the school for playground improvements, robotics, instruments etc
If, like us, you don’t want to see that happen then please consider joining the executive committee. It’s not as daunting as it may sound! You would be joining one or two current execs who will happily guide & help you. You will meet amazing fellow Eumundi parents who all want the best for our children & our school. You could fill a gap in your resume, you could learn new skills, BUT most of all YOU can make a difference in your children's time at Eumundi State School.
At the rescheduled AGM on Tuesday 26th March, 9am all current positions will be vacated & new Executives will be sworn in. Do you have some time to give, do you have a skill set that could be useful???? It could be as little as giving an hour or two a week to drop the weekly banking to the bank & help us approve payments online from home, maybe someone would be happy to chair a meeting, or send an email, every little bit helps. Do you have a friend that you could job share with? For the Eumundi SS P&C to continue we need to fill the positions of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer & Vice Treasurer!!!!!!!
If you can't make it on Tuesday 26th March to the AGM but would like to step into a role please message us either on FB or email us at esspandc@outlook.com. Or if you just want to chat to someone to find out more, please reach out.
Warm regards,
Eumundi School P & C
