Dear Eumundi Families,
As we continue our journey of excellence in education, we are excited to share with you our two key school priorities for 2025. These focus areas are designed to enhance student learning and ensure every child at Eumundi Primary thrives in a supportive, high-quality learning environment.
- Advancing Our Reading and Writing
This year, we are refining our approaches to the teaching of reading and writing across all year levels. Our goal is to ensure that every student becomes a confident, capable communicator.
We are aligning our signature teaching practices with Version 9 of the Australian Curriculum, ensuring consistency and clarity in what we teach and how we teach it.
Teachers are engaging in professional learning to deepen their understanding of effective literacy instruction, with a focus on explicit teaching, rich text engagement, and purposeful writing tasks.
We are also strengthening our use of data to inform instruction, so that every student receives the support and challenge they need to grow as readers and writers. An example of data we use are reading records.
- Sharpening Our Visible Learning
Our second priority is about making learning more visible and meaningful for students, teachers, and families.
We are implementing a line-of-sight model that connects curriculum planning, teaching, and assessment in a clear and consistent way.
Through learning walks and talks, school leaders and teachers are working together to observe, reflect, and refine classroom practices.
This approach ensures that the curriculum is enacted with integrity, and that students are actively engaged in their learning, with a clear understanding of what they are learning, why it matters, and how to improve.
Dobbing vs Reporting
On assembly on Monday, I spoke to all classes about the differences between Dobbing and Reporting. You can also use this language at home.
Dobbing is when:
- You're trying to get someone in trouble.
- The problem is small and could be solved by talking it out.
- You’re telling on someone for something accidental or minor.
- It’s done to gain attention or get revenge.
Example: “Miss, Sam looked at me funny!”
Reporting is when:
- You’re trying to keep someone safe.
- The problem is serious or dangerous.
- Someone is being hurt, bullied, or is in real trouble.
- You’re telling because you care and want to help.
Example: “Miss, I saw someone being pushed and they’re crying.”
A Helpful Rhyme to share with your family is:
“If you’re telling to be mean, that’s a dob.
If you’re telling to keep safe, that’s your job!”
Best regards,
Rob
Greetings to all who open and take the time to read our 'Newsmundi' newsletter.
I'd like to use the space this week to acknowledge some of our fantastic staff and share with readers some of the brilliant work they do providing a rich range of experiences for students and families in our community.
Thank you Mrs Louise Hobson!
Every Thursday morning, Louise sets up our Prep precinct for 'Seedlings' Playgroup with a huge range of creative and sensory building experiences for children ages 0 - 5. Each week we have many families from within our school community and out in our local community come to meet other families and join in Louise's activities - often with a fun theme - such as this week's 'Pirates and Princesses' morning!
Mrs Hobson also leads our school choir, together with Mrs Jess Belford, every Monday morning before school and for special events throughout the year!
Thank you Mrs Shelley McWaters.
Apart from teaching 4WM every Friday - Mrs McWaters leads our Science program and Specialist lessons - providing our students with highly engaging learning and sharing her passion for all things Science. Mrs McWaters also leads our Student Council - their Fundraisers and their daily 'Rubbish Ranger' work - checking out and keeping our student recycling and scraps for our chickens running smoothly. Mrs McWaters ALSO leads our weekly 'Writing Extension' program for selected students - giving our flourishing students opportunity to extend their creative outlets into quality writing.
Thank you Mrs Emma Heffernan!
Emma has led the way to remodel and innovate our already exceptional and unique Enviro Centre and Environmental Education program and takes classes every Thursday and Friday for our Enviro Days. Students are engaged in tending to our chickens and permaculture garden and edibles, cooking delicious meals with Mrs Nat Brewster in the kitchen with garden ingredients, and learning through various interesting science experiments with 'real world' applications. Enviro Days are also supported by Chappy Sam and our Student Engagement Officer Oli Wardle.
Thank you Oli!
For your extensive work helping to maintain our gardens - engaging numerous students throughout the week in garden projects and tasks - and Gardening Club (lunch times Tuesday and Wednesday) - also with Mrs McWaters. Many students love and benefit from having Oli working alongside them in classrooms and in the playgrounds to help engage positively in their school day. Our staff really appreciate your ever positive, and often humorous, approach throughout our days.
Thank you Mrs Tiffany McCarthy!
Tiffany is constantly injecting positive, fun and creative energy around our school and in her classroom. This week Tiffany organised our annual K-2 Fun Day - coordinating all the activities, special visitors and overall celebration of all things 'early years'. Thank you Tiff for a fantastic morning and your ever present positivity.
Thank you Mr Paul Midgley!
We could possibly call our own 'Jack of all trades' - but particularly for your ongoing work leading our entire Information and Communication Technologies work in our school. Mr Midgely, not only engages all students in their weekly Digi Tech lessons with interesting and fun activities, always promoting their skills as self-managers to solve problems, he runs the weekly lunchtime ICT club for students, and works closely 'behind the scenes' with our leadership team supporting our strategic work. He is currently leading a team of teachers who are exploring new digital platforms for teaching and learning. Mr Midgley often accepts to backfill myself and Mr Kross as Deputy Principal (as in this week).
Thank you Ms Kym Stewart and Mrs Carley Bonar!
For leading our GLEE clubs every week and for special performances throughout the year! GLEE is such a great opportunity for students with a love of dancing and performing - and the performances are always exceptional!
I could go on…….as each and every staff member here at Eumundi make fantastic contributions every day……..going above and beyond for our students and each other - helping ensure we love our work, and our students and families love being here.

10-12 Years Noosa District Cross Country Trials 2025
On Friday 9 May Noosaville State School once again hosted the Noosa District Cross Country Trials. This year’s event attracted hundreds of competitors across affiliated schools within our District. Eumundi was represented by 22 students in the 10, 11 and 12 year old age groups. The courses provided a challenge for all runners. 10 year old runners needed to complete a 2km course, while 11 and 12 year old runners were required to run a 3km course.
Congratulations to Ava M, who finished in fifth place in the 10 year old girls division. Ava has now qualified to represent Noosa District at the 2025 Sunshine Coast Regional Cross Country Trials held in Noosaville on Tuesday 3 June. A big well done also to Zoey B who finished eighth in the 10 year old girls division.
Any student who would like to know their overall result/time from their race can come and see Mr Brinkworth.

Year 3 to 6 Athletics Carnival
This week and next week all nominated Year 3 to 6 students will have an opportunity to participate in pre-carnival athletics trials for high jump, long jump, shot put and the 200m sprint, which will be held in addition to their weekly PE lessons that are also focusing on developing track and field skills.
These trials allow us to select students from each house to go in the Championship events during the Year 3 - 6 Athletics Carnival, which will be held on Friday 20 June. Please note, that in long jump, high jump and shot put, there is a Team event on the Carnival day for those not in Championship events. These events have more points allocated to them than Championship events.
The format for each event is as follows:
- Long Jump – Usually up to 12 students per age group are selected to go in the Championship event.
- High Jump – Usually up to 8 students per age group are selected to go in the Championship event.
- Shot Put – Usually up to 12 students per age group are selected to go in the Championship event.
- 80m/100m - everyone runs in the heats on Carnival day leading up to the sprint finals.
- 200m – Strictly 8 students per age group from each house are selected to go in the Championship event. Fastest 8 times are the basis of selection in this event.
- 800m - everyone is encouraged to run in the Championship event is scheduled before the carnival on Wednesday 18 June (approximately 12.10 to 2.30pm).
