Deputy News Prep - Year 2

Greetings to all who open and take the time to read our 'Newsmundi' newsletter.

I'd like to use the space this week to acknowledge some of our fantastic staff and share with readers some of the brilliant work they do providing a rich range of experiences for students and families in our community.

Thank you Mrs Louise Hobson!

Every Thursday morning, Louise sets up our Prep precinct for 'Seedlings' Playgroup with a huge range of creative and sensory building experiences for children ages 0 - 5. Each week we have many families from within our school community and out in our local community come to meet other families and join in  Louise's activities - often with a fun theme - such as this week's 'Pirates and Princesses' morning!

Mrs Hobson also leads our school choir, together with Mrs Jess Belford, every Monday morning before school and for special events throughout the year!

Thank you Mrs Shelley McWaters.

Apart from teaching 4WM every Friday - Mrs McWaters leads our Science program and Specialist lessons - providing our students with highly engaging learning and sharing her passion for all things Science. Mrs McWaters also leads our Student Council - their Fundraisers and their daily 'Rubbish Ranger' work - checking out and keeping our student recycling and scraps for our chickens running smoothly. Mrs McWaters ALSO leads our weekly 'Writing Extension' program for selected students - giving our flourishing students opportunity to extend their creative outlets into quality writing.

Thank you Mrs Emma Heffernan!

Emma has led the way to remodel and innovate our already exceptional and unique Enviro Centre and Environmental Education program and takes classes every Thursday and Friday for our Enviro Days. Students are engaged in tending to our chickens and permaculture garden and edibles,  cooking delicious meals with Mrs Nat Brewster in the kitchen with garden ingredients, and learning through various interesting science experiments with 'real world' applications. Enviro Days are also supported by Chappy Sam and our Student Engagement Officer Oli Wardle.

Thank you Oli!

For your extensive work helping to maintain our gardens - engaging numerous students throughout the week in garden projects and tasks - and Gardening Club (lunch times Tuesday and Wednesday) - also with Mrs McWaters. Many students love and benefit from having Oli working alongside them in classrooms and in the playgrounds to help engage positively in their school day. Our staff really appreciate your ever positive, and often humorous, approach throughout our days.

Thank you Mrs Tiffany McCarthy!

Tiffany is constantly injecting positive, fun and creative energy around our school and in her classroom. This week Tiffany organised our annual K-2 Fun Day - coordinating all the activities, special visitors and overall celebration of all things 'early years'. Thank you Tiff for a fantastic morning and your ever present positivity.

Thank you Mr Paul Midgley!

We could possibly call our own 'Jack of all trades' - but particularly for your ongoing work leading our entire Information and Communication Technologies work in our school. Mr Midgely, not only engages all students in their weekly Digi Tech lessons with interesting and fun activities, always promoting their skills as self-managers to solve problems, he runs the weekly lunchtime ICT club for students, and works closely 'behind the scenes' with our leadership team supporting our strategic work. He is currently leading a team of teachers who are exploring new digital platforms for teaching and learning. Mr Midgley often accepts to backfill myself and Mr Kross as Deputy Principal (as in this week).

Thank you Ms Kym Stewart and Mrs Carley Bonar!

For leading our GLEE clubs every week and for special performances throughout the year! GLEE is such a great opportunity for students with a love of dancing and performing - and the performances are always exceptional!

I could go on…….as each and every staff member here at Eumundi make fantastic contributions every day……..going above and beyond for our students and each other - helping ensure we love our work, and our students and families love being here.

LOOKING BACK OVER THE WEEKS

If you weren't already aware, here is a snapshot of some of the events and activities held recently -

  • Mother's Day stall - another great success - thank you to the P&C team and Chappy Sam for organising.
  • Year 2 Excursion to Wildlife HQ - a great day was had by all - and students gathered more information for their Information Report writing.
  • Prep Open morning - it was very pleasing to see a large number of families in attendance and keen to join Eumundi SS for Prep 2026.
  • Prep 2026 Interviews - these have started on Tuesday afternoons.
  • Prep Vision Screening by Qld Heath nurses for those students who had completed permissions.
  • Cyber Safety talk by Qld Police for Year 5 & 6 students - parents keep an eye out in your emails for shared information.
  • K-2 Fun Day - including our Eumundi Goodstart Kindy visitors!

Well done to all of our students for safely and sensibly following our Evacuation Drill on Thursday. It's important we continue to practice drills to help ensure students are clear about how to stay safe in the event we do ever need to evacuate buildings. Next term we will have another 'Lock Down' drill.

Kind Regards
Sarah
