Principal News
Dear Eumundi Community
Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to Eumundi State School. I’d like to take this opportunity to speak to a few key matters that influence the direction and capacity of our school — particularly student enrolment, attendance, and the role of community advocacy.
Enrolment and Attendance: Why It Matters
In Queensland state schools, our staffing, specialist allocations, and many of the opportunities we offer our students are directly tied to our enrolment numbers. Every student counted on Day 8 — and every student attending consistently — contributes to the resources and flexibility we have to deliver high-quality education.
When enrolments decline, it doesn’t just mean fewer students. It can mean reduced access to specialist teachers in music, PE, and learning support. It can mean tighter budgets, fewer extracurricular options, and constraints on class sizes and curriculum breadth. These are the very things that make our school special and support our students to thrive.
Conversely, when enrolment grows or remains steady, we gain the ability to plan confidently, maintain vibrant specialist programs, and say yes to new initiatives. It allows us to innovate, invest, and uphold the high standards our community expects.
The Power of Positive Talk
This is why it’s so important that we all talk our school up — positively and proudly. Every conversation in the community, every recommendation to a neighbour or friend, and every moment we make school a place children want to be, contributes to a strong and healthy enrolment. It’s a reflection of the trust our community places in us.
As a school, we are committed to delivering high-quality teaching, fostering genuine care, and building a strong sense of belonging. These values are central to our improvement agenda and are what make families proud to be part of Eumundi State School.
Prep/New Enrolments for 2026 & Student Departures
As we begin planning for 2026, we kindly remind families to ensure any younger siblings eligible for Prep next year are enrolled as soon as possible. Likewise, if you know of any new families to the area. Early enrolment helps us prepare for class structures and staffing and ensures a smooth transition for your child into their first year of school.
Additionally, if your family is planning to relocate or your child will not be attending Eumundi State School in 2026, please let the office know as soon as possible. This information is vital for our staffing allocations and class planning.
Thank you for your support in helping us prepare for another great year ahead!
A Visit from Year 1B: Writing Wonders and Sticker Celebrations
Last week, my office was joyfully invaded by a group of very enthusiastic Year 1 students from class 1B. They arrived with big smiles, even bigger voices, and a stack of writing samples they were absolutely bursting to share. I barely had time to swivel my chair before I was surrounded by confident writers proudly displaying their work.
Their writing showed real growth — from sentence structure to vocabulary choices — and their excitement was contagious. To celebrate their efforts, each student received a special Principal’s sticker. It was a wonderful reminder of why we do what we do, and how powerful it is when students feel proud of their learning.
Book Fair Buzz: Wish Lists and Wallets Ready!
In Week 3, students will visit the Library with their class to create their Wish Lists — a magical moment where eyes light up at the sight of shiny covers, colourful illustrations, and books about everything from dinosaurs to detectives.
Then in Week 4, from Monday 27th to Thursday 30th, the Book Fair Shop will be open before and after school, and during morning tea. It’s a great opportunity for families to support literacy, pick up some great reads, and maybe even sneak in a few early Christmas gifts.
We love seeing students excited about books, and the Book Fair is a fantastic way to build that enthusiasm while supporting our school library.
Student Council Fundraiser: Thursday ‘Fun and Food for Thought’
This Thursday, 16 October, our Student Council is hosting a fundraiser for OzHarvest Australia’s leading food rescue charity. It promises to be full of fun, flair, and crazy food costumes. Students are invited to bring a gold coin donation to participate in a themed activity that supports student-led initiatives across the school.
On Monday 3 November, we’ll be holding a whole-school assembly with a special visit from OzHarvest to discuss their initiatives and receive the donations from our school. Our students have been learning about food insecurity — both overseas and right here in Australia — and discussing how we can make a difference. Supporting OzHarvest is a meaningful way for our school to contribute to a cause that aligns with our values of compassion, community, and action.
Day for Daniel: Wear Red and Raise Awareness – Friday 31 October
A quick reminder that Day for Daniel is coming up on Friday, 31 October. On this day, students are encouraged to wear something red to show their support for child safety and awareness.
Day for Daniel is Australia’s largest child safety education and awareness day, held in honour of Daniel Morcombe. It’s a powerful opportunity to talk with students about personal safety, trusted adults, and looking out for one another. The day promotes the message that keeping kids safe is a shared responsibility — one that involves schools, families, and the wider community.
Thanks for your support, by promoting our school positively and supporting consistent enrolment and attendance, we ensure Eumundi State School continues to thrive.
Thanks,
Rob
