CHE BELLO!

ITALIAN CLUB SHORT FILM MOST POPULAR AT FESTIVAL

Over the past term our Italian Club has been working very hard rehearsing and filming CHE BELLO! - a short film scripted and spoken entirely in Italian. Last Friday evening at Somerset College on the Gold Coast our little film appeared as one of the finalists in the Spotlight On Languages Film Festival. It was certainly the most popular and entertaining film, judging by audience reactions, and received a special award for use of Music and Sound.

The film itself is a rom-com based on a song about an Australian boy in Verona, the city of Romeo and Juliet, who works up the courage to talk to an Italian girl. She remains aloof at first but then softens and they become friends. The Italian expression ‘Che bello’ translates as ‘how beautiful’ or ‘how nice’ in English. The phrase can be directed at many different things, including people and objects, or even situations.
