Celebration of The Arts
Term 3 has traditionally been Eumundi’s ‘Arts Term’ - culminating in school performances, visual art displays and Eumundi’s Got Talent finals. We highly value all of our teachers and specialist teachers for all the ways they continue to engage our students in a variety of Arts – Dance, Drama, Visual Arts, and Music – before school, during class times and specialist lessons, and during play breaks. Sometimes also after school hours - as was the case with the recent Instrumental Music Camp. Some of the many benefits to students engaging in Arts -
- Boosts Creativity: Art encourages students to think creatively and explore new ideas, helping develop innovative thinking skills.
- Enhances Problem-Solving: Creating art often involves making choices and solving problems, which improves critical thinking.
- Improves Motor Skills: Drawing, painting, and sculpting help refine fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
- Builds Confidence: Completing art projects gives students a sense of accomplishment, boosting their self-esteem.
- Supports Emotional Expression: Art provides a safe outlet for expressing feelings, helping students process emotions.
- Encourages Cultural Awareness: Learning about different art forms exposes students to diverse cultures and perspectives.
- Strengthens Academic Performance: Studies show that involvement in the arts can improve skills in other subjects like reading, maths, and science.
- Promotes Focus and Patience: Art projects require concentration and persistence, which helps build attention spans.
Our end of term ‘Celebration of The Arts’ have been modified this year to cater for a variety of interests.
Friday 12th September – Eumundi’s Got Talent Finals from 1pm in our KOLA. We are really looking forward to it – and thank you to all the staff and students who have been performing and supporting the heats during lunch breaks.
Visual Arts - The school has purchased equipment for a unique visual art project for each student to design and print their own calico bag and bring home at the end of term as a souvenir of our celebrations. Some year levels are also continuing with specialised Visual Arts activities such as the Year 5 cohort ‘clay creations’ and the Prep students and their term’s Art rotations.
Monday 15th September from 1:30pm - School Performances – Our Instrumental Band, Choir, GLEE, GLEE XF, and Year 6 students will be performing at a whole school parade. People in the community are invited to join us for this event to help promote our Arts program.
The whole school parade precedes the Term 3 Open Classrooms and we hope this will help encourage more parents to join us both for the performances and the opportunity to see your child’s work.
Open Classrooms - Monday 15th September 2:50 – 4:20pm
Parents and carers are invited to visit your child’s class for a tour of their work and progress, and have discussions with teachers. Parents who are keen to have a more focused conversation with your child’s teacher are invited to email the class email to request a meeting. Several teachers will be on leave this week and will notify their parents of the alternative open classrooms opportunity.
Qld Engagement and Wellbeing (QEW) survey summary
The QEW Survey measures wellbeing and engagement across 12 aspects, including resilience, school climate, sense of belonging, motivation and perseverance, academic self-concept, personal social capabilities, general life satisfaction, future outlook and aspirations, relationships with peers, with teachers and at home, and general health.
The following infographics show Eumundi State School student responses compare closely with the majority of students in the state.
With the exception of their sleep health. This shows that Eumundi kids are going to bed earlier and using electronic devices less than the majority of students in the state. Thank you to all the families that support this important habit – and for the impact it has on student wellbeing, learning and engagement during the day at school.
(The thin bars at the top of the following graph are the State averages, with Eumundi represented as the thicker bars)
School Opinion survey
Administration of the 2025 School Opinion Survey was managed by our central office this year. Links to the survey were emailed this year to parents and staff, and Year 5 and 6 students were given some time in classes to access their emails and complete their responses. We look forward to receiving our report, and hope that parents and carers were able to spend some time giving valuable feedback.
School Uniform
With understanding of the challenge some students have with looking after their personal belongings - there is a very large collection of school jumpers lying in the lost property, and a growing number of students wearing alternatively coloured and colourful jackets and jumpers instead of their school-coloured jumpers. If the option is possible, please help reinforce with your child the need to wear their school jumper, and if time permits please have a look through lost property. Many of the jumpers are unnamed.
Student Free - Friday 5th September
Please be aware and note that Eumundi teaching staff have been working additional times throughout the year on professional development in lieu of time for this 'staff professional day'. Students should not attend school on this day as this is a non-teaching day and teaching staff will not be working.
Student Leadership
The Year 5 cohort have been focusing throughout this semester on their Positive Learning program regarding student leadership.
Over the coming weeks students in Year 5 will have the opportunity to apply for Leadership positions for Year 6 in 2026. There are a range of leadership positions that students are encouraged to apply for, such as:
- School Captains
- Sports House Captains
- Performing Arts Leaders
- Peer Support Leaders
- Library Leaders
- Enviro Leaders
- Band Leaders
- Equestrian Leaders
The other leadership opportunity is a ‘Class Representative’ for each classroom from Year 3 to 6. The nominations and voting takes place early in Term 1.
To be recognised as a Eumundi State School Student Leader, students must follow our school rules and expectations explicitly. Students must…
- Consistently follow the school rules and exhibit a high standard of behaviour.
- Promote and uphold the good image of the school and its students at all times.
- Display exemplary work habits and outstanding effort in all learning areas.
- Be actively involved in school activities, encouraging others, respecting differences, be compassionate and caring towards others.
- Represent the student body at official school functions/events e.g. parades; ANZAC Day; Open Days, Sports Days and welcoming visitors to the school.
- Wear the school uniform every day.
During Term 3, students will be spoken to further about the Leadership positions and will have the opportunity to take a Leadership Application to complete. We would encourage parents and carers to take the time to read through the Leadership Application with their child to consider the importance of nominating themselves to represent Eumundi State School in 2026.
Voting for Student Leadership positions will take place during Term 4. Students are eligible to nominate for three leadership positions. If a student nominates for School Captain and is successful in gaining that position, that student will be ineligible for any other nominated positions i.e. that student cannot undertake another leadership position such as Sports House Captain.

Year 5 & 6 Tackle Food Waste at Enviro Days
As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, our Year 5 and 6 students recently took part in two action-packed Enviro Days focused on understanding and reducing food waste.
Students explored the issue of food waste—why it happens, and what impact it has on our environment. A highlight was a special presentation from OzHarvest, Australia’s leading food rescue organisation. Students were shocked to learn that one in five bags of groceries ends up in the bin, and that over 7.6 million tonnes of food is wasted in Australia each year—enough to fill the MCG nine times over!
After learning these facts, students focused on solutions. They engaged with activities like:
- Designing a pizza using ingredients that are often thrown away
- Creating compost and learning about its role in reducing landfill
- Conducting a food waste audit to measure what’s really going in the bin
- Taking part in Taste the Waste, where they sampled often-discarded parts of food like cauliflower leaves and radish tops.
These days provided valuable opportunities for students to reflect on their own habits and consider practical ways to make a difference. They left feeling inspired, empowered, and ready to take small steps towards a more sustainable future.
Mr. Gregory and a group of students wrote a song called Taste it, Don't Waste it which was a big hit!
Thank you.

LATE ARRIVAL
Students ARRIVING LATE need to sign in at the office and obtain a late slip. All students should be in class by 8:40am for roll marking. Students who arrive after this time are considered late. This is prime learning time for all the children so please try and give your child/ren every opportunity to maximise their learning by arriving to school on time.

Parents are requested to make appropriate arrangements with their children relating to getting home from school in the morning before they leave home. The Staff Carpark on Caplick Way is NOT TO BE USED AS A DROP-OFF/PICK-UP AREA OR PARKING AREA FOR PARENTS WAITING TO COLLECT THEIR CHILD. This action creates issues with on site contractors, deliveries and staff having access to the carparks and is potentially dangerous for students.
The parallel car parks at the front of the school (near the Wellbeing Hub) are now 10 minute between 7.00am – 9.00am & 2.00pm – 4.00pm so they can be utilised as a Drop Off/Pick Up Area.
Students should not be advised by parents to meet them in the Carpark area. The exit route for the students should be through the middle area of the school and then through the single gates.
