Year 3 to 6 Athletics Carnival
Over the next few weeks all year 3 to 6 students will have an opportunity to participate in pre-carnival athletics trials for high jump, long jump, shot put and the 200m sprint, which will be held in addition to their weekly PE lessons that are also focusing on developing track and field skills.
If wishing to attend pre-carnival athletics trials, it will be very important that your child/children have nominations returned by the DUE DATE as NO late nominations will be accepted. More information about how to nominate will be sent out to parents over the upcoming week.
These trials allow us to select students from each house to go in the Championship events during the Year 3 - 6 Athletics Carnival, which will be held on Friday 20 June. Please note, that in long jump, high jump and shot put, there is a Team event on the Carnival day for those not in Championship events. These events have more points allocated to them than Championship events.
The format for each event is as follows:
- Long Jump – Usually up to 12 students per age group are selected to go in the Championship event.
- High Jump – Usually up to 8 students per age group are selected to go in the Championship event.
- Shot Put – Usually up to 12 students per age group are selected to go in the Championship event.
- 80m/100m - everyone runs in the heats on Carnival day leading up to the sprint finals.
- 200m – Strictly 8 students per age group from each house are selected to go in the Championship event. Fastest 8 times are the basis of selection in this event.
- 800m - everyone is encouraged to run in the Championship event is scheduled before the carnival on Wednesday 18 June (approximately 12.10 to 2.30pm).

Year 5 students recently took part in The Amazing Garden Race, an action-packed event where they put all their learning from Enviro Days to the test.
Working in teams, students tackled a variety of garden-themed challenges to earn clues and progress through the course. Activities included whipping up a batch of pumpkin scones, counting a mountain of pumpkins, planting seed trays, constructing a teepee trellis, racing in a watering can relay, and exploring the orchard on a plant identification scavenger hunt. They also sorted and identified seeds, sequenced the life cycle of a plant, and even got hands-on de-seeding a pumpkin! It was an exciting, energetic day that celebrated teamwork, sustainability, and everything students have discovered about the garden over the years.
Eumundi State School Readers Cup Team 2025
Eumundi State School is excited to be participating in the 2025 Readers Cup! Congratulations to all the students who expressed interest, and a special well done to the five students who have been selected to represent ESS at the Sunshine Coast competition in June.
Our Year 6 team members are pictured here with their bundle of books and are already deep into their reading in preparation for the big event. Many began reading at the end of last term and will continue right up to competition day.
A big thank you to Miss Amber for organising copies of the required books for students to borrow. This year's titles include Scar Town, 11 Ruby Rd, Silver Linings, The Kindness Project, and Fearless Frederick.
Happy reading!
